Rome got a job substitute teaching in our hometown. Apparently, Pennsylvania is the only state that won't let just any John Doe off the street fill in for a teacher.
Today he was in an elementary school for the gym teacher. I got a text promptly at 3:05 that stated "I'm exhausted. I could never do this everyday."
...welcome to my life.

I subbed for 15 years before I took my job in the office and I often said, and still say, that parents, especially those who complain about teachers, should have to come in and take over the class for one day of the year. I also say that they should have to volunteer in the cafeteria one day to see what goes on in there. Most people couldn't handle it. That's why I have so much respect for teachers.
In Illinois, you just have to have a Bachelor's degree to get the sub certificate. I did it in law school and it was the hardest job I have ever had.
@Lorraine: It is much appreciated.
@Paige: New Jersey only requires a certain amount of college credits so most of my friends have been subbing (or trying to) for the past year or so.
That's so interesting. Did have have to get his clearances?
And um, yeah. I fell asleep at 7pm last night and woke up at 8 this morning. I'm still tired!
@crazy: He did have to get clearances...although I'm not sure if he had to pay for them himself.
